One Way: The Elevator is one of the waviest games I’ve ever played. I love games that feature waving. Far too few do, aside from sarcastic emotes in multiplayer shooters, and those don’t count. It’s perhaps more surprising in One Way, given its cheery demeanour disguises a rather melancholy story.
This is a very cleverly presented series of puzzles, each little vignettes as a small boy ascends a seemingly magical elevator that climbs up the floors of a building. On each new floor strange characters, sentient animals, and a hodge-podge of novel and hoary puzzles stand between the kid and the magic ball his lift eats (it has teeth) to climb to the next level.
It’s lovely-looking too, all bright, cheerful colours and happy-go-lucky folk, slightly reminding me of an Adventure Time vibe on an Amanita design. You click on stuff to see what happens, and then notice clues or patterns to press the right buttons on machines, decode symbols, and restore broken robots. Then alongside that, slightly less appealingly, you have some eye-rollers, like rotating pipes, restoring torn up paper, and worst of all, a 3×3 sliding tile puzzle. No! Bad game! In your box.
Why he’s climbing is somewhat more complicated. This gorgeous, cutesy puzzle-adventure begins with the cartoonish adoption and subsequent cruel treatment of a small boy. Think Harry Potter/Roald Dahl, told in wordless cutscenes, rather than something dark or disturbing. But still, it’s fair to say the entire plot relies on the deaths of two parents to get going, and then falls back on it in slightly mawkish ways throughout. Happy recollections of his life before the accident are reminisced as things in this clearly allegorical fantasy prompt memories.
I am certainly a little weary of games that begin with the sad deaths of someone or other, to justify EMOTIONS throughout. I always think of something Stephen King once wrote, I think in the afterword for Bag Of Bones but I might be wrong, about how he feels a depth of cheapness, and even something more serious, about bringing characters into existence only for the need to murder them. Can we maybe start thinking of motivations for young characters in games that don’t involve killing their loved ones on or off screen? Who knows, maybe it’s the personal experience of someone who made it – it just doesn’t feel earned here. On finishing it, it doesn’t even feel necessary.
This is by Cotton Game, who have been releasing interesting little projects since 2016’s Mr. Pumpkin Adventure, not that the (Western, at least) gaming press has apparently ever noticed. This bemuses me, because I could have sworn I’d written about Little Triangle for RPS, but clearly I did not. I am as bad as everyone else. I almost certainly played Isolands 1 and 2 on Android, and remember they were almost good. It seems like if anything should merit some wider attention being paid, One Way should be it.
I think Cotton Game are a Chinese indie studio, but they are somewhat enigmatic online. Their English website hasn’t been updated since 2015, and they only go by nicknames on there. INTRIGUE. Perhaps they’re big in China? Someone let me know.
But back to the game in hand. One Way works so well, even if some of the puzzles are a little over-used, because it just keeps on changing. Each new floor means a new scene, new characters, a fresh start. There are linking moments, as previous denizens reappear higher up in sweet, entertaining ways, but nothing that came before affects what you’re going to do next – you don’t need to worry about missing something earlier and having to retread or anything so cumbersome.
Well… almost. Cotton have a habit of designing their games to need to be played more than once to entirely complete them, and an accompanying habit of never remembering to explain that to the player. I remember getting tripped up by this on Isoland, although then being rather delighted by how cleverly it applied. The same is true here, and there are a couple of moments where presented puzzles are impossible to finish, because you’re meant to be noticing a simultaneous puzzle and saving the first one for later. That’s just bad game design, and I wish they’d stop it. At the same time, I’m delighted there’s a reason to re-play One Way, and want to do it.
So yes, I’ve griped above, but I really enjoyed this. It’s so lovely, and if you ignore its rather clumsy attempts to pluck on heartstrings, it holds together well. There are a bunch of decent puzzles in there, plus there are whole sections of the game you won’t find the first time through. It’s sweet, but there’s a depth to the design of the tower that reveals itself as you climb. It’s cheap too. And most of all, there’s all that waving!

That’s just bad game design, and I wish they’d stop it. At the same time, I’m delighted there’s a reason to re-play One Way, and want to do it.
So yes, I’ve griped above, but I really enjoyed this. It’s so lovely, and if you ignore its rather clumsy attempts to pluck on heartstrings, it holds together well. There are a bunch of decent puzzles in there, plus there are whole sections of the game you won’t find the first time through. It’s sweet, but there’s a depth to the design of the tower that reveals itself as you climb. It’s cheap too. And most of all, there’s all that waving!

Linux user here - just wanted to say that not only did I love this game (great soundtrack, lovely art style and really fun gameplay), it also works perfectly even when using the open-source AMD drivers on a relatively-old card (pretty rare to see a 3D game on Linux that can do that).
Definitely gonna recommend this to people.

I had to break Tiny and Big in order to realise just how much I love it. I mean really break it, too: dead end, entirely out of options, nothing for it but to restart the chapter and lose 30 minutes of progress. I usually hate this sort of thing in games, but that’s because this sort of thing in games is usually the result of a bug.
In Tiny and Big it’s completely different: I was given the ability to chop things down, and I then chopped down so much that the level didn’t work any more. In a game like this, it’s hard to begrudge the odd restart – they’re nothing more than the necessary consequence of all the freedom you’ve been allowed.
You can divide a lot of games up, I reckon, based on whether they give you props or tools. Take a grappling hook: in Arkham Asylum it’s a tool. In other games it might be a prop – a contextual canned animation that whisks you to a new part of the level while giving you the illusion of control. Stand here, press A, fire the grappling hook. Don’t stand over there, idiot, it won’t work. It only works over here.
Portal: that’s a game that gives you tools. Tiny and Big does, too. It gives you three separate tools, in fact, and then it goes beyond anything Aperture or Arkham offers by allowing you to use them almost entirely as you please.
So you can slice things, drag things, and rocket things into the distance in Tiny and Big, and you’re not going to tire of that kind of action any time soon. Tiny’s on a mission to steal some magical underpants back from the villainous Big, see, and as he explores the game’s desert temple setting, he’ll need to get the most out of his laser cutter, his grappling hook and his, well, rocketizer thingy if he’s going to be victorious.
It’s wonderful stuff, and it’s mostly down to the fact that the game almost never makes you feel like you’re being hemmed in. It’s surprisingly rare to find an object nearby that you can’t slice into pieces (things lurking further back tend to be largely non-interactive, mind) and the same goes for objects you want to drag closer or push away.

This is powerful magic the game’s letting you meddle with, too. Need to escape a locked room? Cut your way out. Need to scale a wall with no handholds? Bring down some pillars and break them up to fit your needs. Or, heck, just forget your objectives and play. Rip things up, fling them around, topple the game’s precarious sets and delight in its cartoon physics. Explore its endless ability to manufacture comedy death.
All of your tools feel great to use, too. With the laser, for example, you highlight an object and then extend a line across it, cutting and re-cutting with real precision, while the grapple hook conveys a genuine sense of weight as you tug boulders about and fell giant towers. Best of all, there’s that rocket: you can hold down the middle mouse wheel to give it as much juice as you want, and it’s ceaselessly comical to see a buttress sailing off into the distance, or a misshapen rock skidding over the desert and then colliding with something tall and heavy that – oops – starts to swing your way. Dead again.
It would be enough to keep you happy if the game was just a sandbox, but Grandpa’s Leftovers – the first episode of Tiny and Big, apparently – is actually an action-packed two hours of platforming and puzzle solving. Enjoy scaling the Agency Tower in Crackdown? That’s basically what you’re in for with the first hour or so, while the second piles on boss fights – you mainly duck flying boulders or break them in two – and some spooky interiors.
The more the game starts to fling stone things at you, the more it risks becoming annoying: it’s a rare player who won’t want to be left to just cut things and shunt them around without a constant bombardment from above. These sequences don’t last forever, though, and they provide moments of real cinematic brilliance as a huge wall of rock is heaved your way and you bust it apart at the very last second.
Forget the triple-A crowd: Tiny and Big comes closer than any game I’ve ever played to recreating that moment in Spider-Man 2 when Doctor Octopus starts flinging taxis about. Sweet Molina! And it does it all without any actual taxis!
You can approach most of the game’s objectives any way you’d like, although there’s a reward for completing a level with only minimal use of your arsenal. Why bother with that, though? What a stupid idea. Go nuts. You’ve got a laser beam, a springy rope and some freakin’ rockets: this isn’t the time to exercise restraint.
The first time I broke the game, it was because I accidentally chopped down a massive ramp I was meant to be climbing up. Tiny and Big was perfectly happy to let me do pruning on that scale, and it was perfectly happy to let me try to salvage the situation, too, bringing down a distant wall one slice at a time, until the entire world was composed of useless nubs.
It should have been infuriating, but it was brilliant – brilliant and hilarious and inventive, like a Portal challenge, but without all the hand-holding, protective padding, and unspoken direction that comes from Valve’s playtesting. I don’t mind the odd restart if it’s because I’ve done something genuinely apocalyptic. I quite like it, in fact. I’ve earned that restart.

At times, of course, Tiny and Big could do with a little more playtesting: indoor levels are dark and hard to navigate, while the checkpoint placement is worryingly random and the platforming isn’t particularly precise. None of this truly ruins the game, though, just as it doesn’t matter too much if you don’t like the handicraft magic-marker art style, the sprays of giant onomatopoeias, the hipster soundtrack or the rather studenty humour which delights in plastering the surroundings in glyphs depicting Y fronts.Tiny And Big Grandpa’s Leftovers Achievement Guide

The whole thing reminds me of one of the ancient and inviolate rules of storytelling, actually, the one that goes something like this: stick your hero up a tree, throw rocks at him, and then get him down again. For games – games like Tiny and Big, anyway – you can probably add another clause to that formula: when your hero’s stuck up that tree, give him a laser, a grapple hook and, oh, a handful of rockets. Why not, eh? Why not?

The Longing is an indiepoint-and-click adventureidlevideo game, released on March 5, 2020 by Studio Seufz. The game follows a creature called a Shade, who waits 400 days to awaken a sleeping king. During this wait, the Shade must find ways to pass the time. The game is notable in that the in-game four hundred days pass in real-time, regardless of whether or not the player opens the game. The plot of the game is based on the legend of Kyffhäuser. The Longing received positive reviews and was praised for its experimental nature.

The gameplay of The Longing revolves around a real-time countdown of 400 days as the player character, called a Shade, waits to awaken its king. Interaction with the world is slow-paced by design,[2] with the Shade’s movement speed being significantly slow.[3] The gameplay consists mostly of exploring caves, gathering resources to furnish the Shade’s home, and other time-wasting activities such as reading[a] and drawing.[5] Many aspects of the game are time-dependent, for instance, roadblocks which require the player to wait a certain amount of time before progressing.[2] The game is intended to, at least in part, be played idly,[2] enabled by features such as idle reading and a bookmark system,[6] by which the player can direct the Shade to automatically walk to a previously saved location, return to its home, or randomly wander around.[7][8]
The player’s main goals are driven by a to-do list of things to improve the Shade’s life,[9] however, no interaction with the game world is required to advance the timer, as it continues regardless of what actions are taken[b] and increments independently of the game being open.[10] Time advances faster in the Shade’s home depending on how well-furnished it is, as well as while performing certain actions such as drawing.[7] As a result of the timer’s constant progression, it is possible to beat the game by opening it once, waiting 400 days, then opening it again, although this is not the intended way to play.[2] To prevent cheating, the game also has a dungeon system as a consequence for players who attempt to circumvent the time limit by changing their computer’s system clock.[2] The game features several endings, and not all require the player to wait out the 400 day timer.[7][11]Development and release[edit]
The Longing’s story was largely inspired by the Kyffhäuser legend, particularly by a dwarven character within the poem ’Kyffhäuser Mountains Barbarossa’ by Friedrich Rückert, which was based upon the legend. The dwarf was tasked with checking every 100 years if its king was ready to awaken. Anselm Pyta, director of The Longing, found the character interesting, and focused in on it and its mental state.[2] As such, much of the game was built around the theme of loneliness.[1] The gameplay was inspired by idle games such as Clicker Heroes.[2] Prior to release, a demo of the game was showcased at AdventureX 2020.[10] The game released on March 5, 2020 to Steam for Windows, Mac, and Linux.[12]

Jimbo’s Secret Soup Pot
You can find this item right in the first area. It is the smal ruin at the top left. However youll need a double jump to get there. It will probably take you a few tries. If you cant get it outright come back later with wall climb or Red Dragon Tonic (sword upwards thrust).
Happy Leaf
Shrine: Toad Pools.Right after the shirne jump up in the small hole in the ceiling. There is a platfom you should be able to land on. Again, if you arent able to reach it, wait for the Wallclimb or Red Dragon Tonic later in the game.
I found it rather helpful as it gives you a nice 20% speed boost
Achy Breaky Smelly Heart
Shrine: Z´s Breakfast Food.Altho its not that hidden, there are multiple routs around it, so maybe someone wont find it.Right after Z´s Breakfast Food, take the lowest Path and continue right. Youll find it eventualy.[Its been already collected in this screenshot]
Firefly King’s Heart
Shrine: Z´s Breakfast Food.Same area as the Achy Breaky Smelly Heart, but this time youll go up whenever possible. There youll find the Firefly King. He´ll drop the Firefly King´s Heart.
Glowy Mushrooms

Shrine: LOHAS Phase 2.Just continue right and up, untill you come into the first ’room’ with spikes.Dungeon Munchies Chapter 2
Standing on that platform go left, there is a hidden path, be mindful of the spikes.
Be careful when you continue, as there are a bunch of slimes that can be rather dangerus.
Dried Insight ShroomDungeon Munchies Ending
Shrine: Lohas Marketplace.Follow the normal route till you find one water spirit and two eyeballs.
After defeating them you can get up the hidden passage in the celing (where the waterfall comes out)
Work your way up and treat yourself with a new secret recipe.
Fried Durian Puffs
Shrine: LOHAS Marketplace.You´ll need to follow the rout for awhile untill you find a crafting and cocking spot.
If get up and follow the path youll be met by multiple spiders. The recipe is also in spiderwebs, so dont try to rush it.
Coco Stuff
Shrine: Railcrossing.When you drop down on the rails, go left instead of right. There youll find a tree with the extra ingredient.
The coresponding recipe can be found a bit further. Make sure to use your dash to avoid dmg.
Super Double Crab Boil
Shrine: Asan Cave.Continue with the path untill after the two Iron Bulls.There will be a small opening in the celing.
There will be some spikes, so be prepared to take some dmg.
Blood Lotus Tea
Shrine: MT Asan Area.Go right untill you have to jump up a ledge. Get on the ledge and the perform walljumps above it.
Pappy Panna Cotton
Shrine: Halcyon Heights Alleyways.There will be a point where you have to go up, look left. There should be an opening.

The timing is good for anyone who has an itch to play a Star Wars game in the wake of the popularity of Season Two of The Mandalorian on Disney+. Disney’s Lucasfilm has licensed Aspyr to build numerous Star Wars ports during the past year. Retro games are a big market these days, and Aspyr has specialized in finding new markets and platforms for those games based on familiar brands and licenses.
The game will debut as a $15 game on iOS and Android. It’s a single-player role-playing game that developer BioWare originally created for the PC and Xbox in 2004. It says a lot that mobile devices are now capable of running games that once debuted on the PC, said Aspyr’s Elizabeth Howard in an interview with GamesBeat.
“Fans have long demanded and asked for this, so we’re pretty pumped to get it to them,” Howard said. “Taking a PC game and making it into a mobile game is one of the things that Aspyr is uniquely positioned to do. We have a ton of experience with that and we have proprietary libraries to do that. This fits really well into our wheelhouse.”
The game is set five years after the events from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (which came out in 2003). Sith Lords have hunted the Jedi to the edge of extinction and are on the verge of crushing the Old Republic. With the Jedi Order in ruin, the Republic’s only hope is a lone Jedi struggling to reconnect with the Force. As this Jedi, players will be faced with the galaxy’s most dire decision – follow the light side or succumb to the dark.
You can choose to play on the light or dark side of the Force in the game. The choices made will affect the player’s character, their party, and those who may join the quest. You can add characters to your party including favorites like HK-47, Canderous Ordo, and Kreia. The game is optimized for mobile play with touchscreen controls. Howard said she was pleased with the timing of the launch, thanks to the popularity of Star Wars this season.
“Every time something happens in the world around Star Wars, we in the game space also benefit,” Howard said. “We love all the attention that Star Wars has gotten both with the Mandalorian and other things. We were just really motivated to try to get it out in time for the holidays.”
Aspyr also recently ported Star Wars Episode I: Racer on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Howard said those latter two versions will run on an Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, thanks to the backward compatibility. She said the backward compatibility makes it easier for the company to execute its strategy of publishing retro games on older platforms, as they won’t see any financial penalty for not doing a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S version. To date, Aspyr has done four Star Wars remakes in the past year, and many others over the years.

The game starts out with an optional tutorial where you will be getting familiar with most of the functions of the game such as collecting and selling souls, working with side skills such as Timber, Mining Tailor and more.
I saw a post about SoulHunt this morning over on Rock Paper Shotgun, and it looks both intriguing and freaky. Plus, the fact that the Soul Hunt open alpha is currently available for everyone to try out is a good reason to mention it here.
SoulHunt, from what I gather from the gameplay trailer and the game’s Greenlight page, is a multiplayer hide’n’seek game that tends towards the darker side of things. Some of the players are the souls and some are the seekers. The souls have to find a hiding place in one of the many ordinary objects scattered around the map (mugs, brooms, fire hydrants, etc.). That sounds simple enough, and it seems like hiding in a mug in a cupboard of mugs would be a great place to avoid detection.Soulhunter Kayn Wallpaper
But here is the kicker…every soul emits a heartbeat which can be heard by the seekers if they get close enough. Moreover, and herein lies the freaky part, the seekers are rather disturbing looking clowns that are out to harvest you. If they find you, you have to run for it, which makes what looks like a rather funny chase scene with a clown chasing down a mug that is scooting across the floor.
Anyway, it looks like one of those game that could be quite hilarious if you play with a bunch of friends online. So check out the Soul Hunt open alpha and get ready to harvest some souls! Enjoy!

SoulHunt is a cool ‘Hide ‘n Seek’ online multiplayer game inspired by the prop hunt mods, where you don’t hide behind objects, you hide inside them – you really can be anything from a table to a turd.
Teams are divided into hiders and seekers, the hiders can hide in anything they see (and we mean ANYTHING) with a goal of avoiding the seekers for as long as possible. Thanks to your ability to possess any object, hiding in plain sight is easy, but it’s still not a walk in the park – the hunters can hear your heart beat by pressing ‘Q’. Hiders can stop their heartbeat, but only for a short time, and once a seeker knows you’re in the area you’ll have to be pretty sneaky to avoid detection.
SoulHunt features one map at the moment (a large hospital), the main ‘hide and seek’ game mode and the ‘clown hunter’ seeker. It’s still very early in development, but the core gameplay is solid and the devs have great plans to expand on it – with new maps, game modes, sfx & graphical upgrades, soul-trails, perks, currency and skill sets. It’s already great fun in the current build though – whether you’re clown, a table, a coffee cup, a turd or a banana – you’ve never played a game of hide and seek quite like this!Soulhunter Kayn Spotlight
